Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino, was a successful condottieri and a renowned intellectual humanist. He commissioned the construction of a great library and assembled a large humanistic court in the Ducal Palace of Urbino. He was also a patron of fine artists, including the young painter Raphael.
